Emma’s Child

Emma’s Child
By Kristine Thatcher

Jean and Henry are a couple whose soon-to-be-adopted baby is born with a life-threatening congenital disorder. Jean bonds to him, while Henry avoids the lad, assuming the fate of the adoption is a foregone conclusion. Jean’s love for the boy and Henry’s fear of him threatens to unravel their marriage as they sort through the heartbreaking question of whether they should keep the child.

Emma’s Child was the first play ever commissioned by the internationally recognized Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It is the winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for Women’s Playwriting

Played October 21-November 13, 1999
