Pride’s Crossing

Pride’s Crossing
By Tina Howe

Rich in texture and imagination, Pride’s Crossing is a memory play wrapped around 90-year-old Mabel Tidings Bigelow who, in 1928, swam the English Channel from Dover to Calais. The play subtly interweaves past with present, as, bit by bit, we get to know Mabel, her life, and her circle, until we finally reach the precise moment in the past — a challenge conquered, a love rejected — that defined Mabel’s life.

Played July 29-August 21, 1999
