Season 2000
As Bees in Honey Drown
By Douglas Carter Beane
A
frothy comedy set in Manhattan, As Bees In Honey Drown
follows the trail of self-invented socialite Alexa Vere de Vere
(Terry Desch) and Evan Wyler (Nate Emmons), the young novelist she
takes under her wing. A recently published book by Wyler has induced
Alexa to have him write her life story for a possible film, and
Evan gets caught up in the whirlwind of fame and "instant success".
What he discovers "behind the green curtain" leads us into the intoxicating
world of the play.
As
Bees In Honey Drown was the runaway hit of the 1997 Off-Broadway
Season, with the New York Times lauding it "a delicious souffle
of a satire." It promises to be a very memorable evening of theatre,
with just the right touches of comedy, satire, and items for provocative
thought.
