Redwood Curtain Conservatory Classes

  • (ages 14 and up)

    This three-class series will cover the basics of unarmed stage combat including punches, slaps, falls, kicks, and more - all taught with safety in mind! In the third session, combatants will put their skills to use by choreographing and performing a short scene with a partner or small group.

    This class explores acting techniques in a playful and encouraging environment. Students will develop the fundamentals of acting using exercises, improvisation and written text.

  • (ages 18 and up)

    Scene Study students will learn to create a character from the study of a script and the development of a scene with a partner or partners that they will present in a special showcase performance after the last class. This class is great for those who have never been onstage, haven't been onstage in a long time, or veteran actors who would just like to hone their skills or try a role that they have never had the opportunity to play.

  • (ages 14 and up)

    This workshop will focus on the jazz technique found in most GoldenAge and Contemporary musicals. We will dive into movement, and how it can enhance and further the story, as well as the individual movement of a character and their perspective within large group numbers. This is an intensive movement workshop. Participants will be asked to wear form fitting movement clothes and bring jazz or ballet shoes if they have them. Socks will be fine if not. Be prepared to learn and perform choreography, and discuss character. Don’t forget to bring water.

    Come learn what the expectations are on set and how to be the best Extra/Background actor ever. Tips include how to be used several times on the same film, what happens during the day, and how to get invited back. Participants will be favored during casting calls, as the training provides expertise.

  • This class is designed to give you the tools you need to explore the craft of dramatic writing – perfect for writers of all experience levels. Topics include: character design, stage direction, dialogue and storytelling. Lots of insightful writing activities! Any who have previously taken this class are invited to take it again as we will explore new topics and writing assignments. 7 two-hour classes culminate in an actual performance of works from the class.
